About Me

If you have gotten this far you know my name is Marissa Melin.  I have my blog, which is purely my own mumblings about life, education, books, technology, and all the other thoughts that seem to drift through this chaotic mind of mine.   If you'd like to see my mumblings in short form, follow me on twitter:  @melinisms (although personally I find 140 characters a little stifling for my stream of thought).

I have been teaching for 8 years in Florida and taught the gambit of middle school.  I have spent the majority of my career teaching 8th grade language arts.  I also seem to take on more and more responsibilities each year, in the form of curriculum writing, professional development, and most recently higher education.  If you'd like to see my stats, baseball card style, check out my digital resume.

When it comes to teaching, I tend to be a rebel.  I believe strongly in integrating technology, challenging gifted students, and instilling a love of reading and poetry into students.  This causes me to sometimes cause ripples and often waves at my school and district (I'm more of a why not person than a yes person.)  I'm stubborn and if I think it's right for kids, I don't give up.

In life, I thankfully have a very understanding husband, who puts up with this stubbornness.  When I'm not working too much, I love to do projects on our home, snuggle with my cats, and travel.  I'm still working on finding the balance between teaching and the rest of my world- if you have the answer to life, the universe, and everything (42... of course), please let me know in an email:  mer4585@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Until then, I'll keep on teaching, and learning, and occasionally living my life outside of the classroom.
